Moving Your Website From Host to Host
Moving your website from one host to another is a very simple task so don't let it put you off moving your website to mtrav and taking advantage of our excellent service and budget prices.
Your current host might try to convince you otherwise but here, in a nutshell is the process.
- Buy your desired hosting package with mtrav
- Using an FTP client such as WinSCP connect to your current hosting server and copy all files and folders of your site to your local computer
- If you are using a database, perhaps you have a Wordpress website, using PHPMyAdmin you will need to export the data and table structure to a .sql file. Note the database name, username and password
- FTP into your new mtrav hosting account. You will need to use the IP address (which we will provide) instead of your domain name and upload all your website files
- Create a database (if required) and import the .sql file above
- If you are moving your email as well then create the same mailboxes on your mtrav hosting
- Change the nameserver records of your domain to point to your mtrav hosting account. We will provide the NS records you need
That's it! Your new website will flawlessly switch and you should experience no downtime either with your site or emails. You can then cancel your old hosting.
Of course, we're happy to do all of this for you. Happy Host Moving!
