As the owner of a domain name you should be aware that there are bogus ‘renewal’ companies in operation. So convincing are the emails that they send out that I’ve heard of even suspecting people being caught out. One person who contacted mtrav.me.uk had even lost their domain.
How can you avoid this? How do you know any domain renewal notice is genuine?
- Only the people you bought the domain from will issue renewal notices
- Note also that if you have ever transferred a domain the old registrar may still try to invoice you.
- If in doubt contact your hosting provider or the people you bought the domain from before you do anything.
