Trouble with wi-fi when away on business.

Are you a business person that travels extensively and craves wi-fi hotspots as much as a junkie craves the next hit?  Do you feel the world is about to stop turning simply because you can’t read an email?

Well, if you are then before you pick up your satellite phone and prepare to give both barrels to your email or website host have a read of the following article posted on the BBC’s website ‘Business road warriors fail to get connected‘.

Buying a .info domain name

If you’re considering buying a domain name for your business then I suggest having a serious re-think if you are considering a .info domain name as your primary domain.

It is apparent that such domain names have been bought-up by organisations that simply mass mail and spam and as a result I have finding more and more legitimate businesses are blocking any mail sent from a .info addresses and this would mean your best efforts at promotion are going nowhere.

Be wise and buy a proper top-level domain (TLD) that best reflects your business; .co.uk, .org.uk, .ltd.uk and so on.

Beware domain name renewal scams

As the owner of a domain name you should be aware that there are bogus ‘renewal’ companies in operation.  So convincing are the emails that they send out that I’ve heard of even suspecting people being caught out.  One person who contacted mtrav.me.uk had even lost their domain.

How can you avoid this?  How do you know any domain renewal notice is genuine?

  • Only the people you bought the domain from will issue renewal notices
  • Note also that if you have ever transferred a domain the old registrar may still try to invoice you.
  • If in doubt contact your hosting provider or the people you bought the domain from before you do anything.
  • Contact mtrav.me.uk and we can advise further or at least tell you whom you should contact.
